Happy by Taeyeon

At the end of any day (maybe everyday), good music is all you need to brighten up the mood or even as simple as putting a smile on your face. So today, I wanted to introduce a song that will hopefully make you feel a little better and maybe a little 'happy-er' (yes, pun intended).

As usual, these are purely my own thoughts as a fan and just spreading a little positivity out there.

From the title, we are obviously talking about Taeyeon's latest digital single that was released on May 4th. To those of you who don't know who is Taeyeon, let me show you the stunning teaser image for this single. Now, do I have your attention?

To those of you who don't know who this beautiful being is, she is the leader and main vocalist of Girls' Generation (SNSD), a popular K-pop girl group since 2007. As part of the 9-piece girl group formed by S.M Entertainment, they were one of the groups that brought Korean wave (Hallyu) that took Asia and later the world by storm with their Korean pop music such as 'Gee' and 'Genie'.

She then began her career as a solo in 2015 titled I and has been one of the rising female solo artist in South Korea since with her subsequent successes with My Voice (2017) and Purpose (2019) albums peaked atop the Gaon Album Chart. To name a few, her famous singles from the two prominent albums are "Fine", "11:11", "Four Seasons" and "Spark".

With a voice like hers, it's no doubt that she also makes appearance for the Korean Drama soundtracks namely "A Poem Titled You" (그대라는 시) for Hotel Del Luna and "Into the Unknown" for Frozen 2. My personal favourites being 'If' for Hong Gil Dong and 'All With You' for Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.

A Song About Happiness

Just in time for spring, Taeyeon returns to serenade us with her new new digital single called 'Happy'. It was supposed to be released on March 9th (her birthday) but it had to be postponed for her dad passed away. (Condolences to Taeyeon and her family).

The song is said to to have a combination of old school doo-wop and R&B to create a heartwarming and wholesome 3:46 minute track. The song started off already feeling happy as you hear Taeyeon singing 'Happy La La La' subtly against the old school background vibe and visuals. Surprisingly, the loud and deep thumping drums that came after the intro did not affect the vibrant music at all.

Stills of Taeyeon in her Happy MV.

Throughout the MV, you can see Taeyeon just enjoying herself in a cozy room with her headphones on or simply singing along. From the lyrics, it seems to say that even the sight or thought of her loved ones puts a smile on her face, to the point until she didn't want to wake up from that dream.

널 보면 난 happy 깨기 싫은 꿈   (When I see you I'm happy)
따스한 이 사랑은 추억의 한 편에 쌓여가고   (A dream I don't want to wake up from)

오랜 시간 속 둘만의 소원을 속삭여 봐   (We're together I'm happy)
함께 있어 난 happy (happy) 영원할 이 꿈 (핫핫)   (This dream will last forever (Ha, ha)

As if to fit our quarantine mood, you see her spending time with herself or with the headphones on and even during chores in the cozy room. At the same time, it is also the kind of song that I would listen to while taking a walk at the park - and later finding myself dancing to the beats. That's how I would imagine it because it's so catchy and it makes you want to dance playfully.

Definitely a song that suits the spring season with the pop of colours, the flowers backdrop, bits and pieces of retro vibes. As she promised, this is a special 'healing' fan gift that brings happiness.

La La La Happy~ La La La Happy~

Take a listen to that song now or maybe watch the aesthetically pleasing MV!

P.S: I've been listening to it since I started writing this - so it's pretty much in my head now. La La La~

Love, Sara
