Getaway Part 2 : Kuching
I'm backkkk yo! LOL and yeah I know a very delayed Part 2 indeed. Before I proceed, credits to Sheryn for taking the HD photos with her awesome DSLR and also to others whom I may have taken the pictures they took with their phones. If you see those not so pretty but candid photos throughout this post, it is most probably taken by yours truly.
Let's continue the journey then.
18th May
Plane landed safely at Kuching International Airport and off we went to meet up with the first batch people along with a coursemate of ours who is a Sarawakian and also our tourguide for this trip! Meet Shirley, also whom I refer to as "sistorrr". I can already imagine her waving hi like Stitch when she sees this. The 18 of us meet up and say our greetings and off we went into three separate cars that includes Shirley's car as well. Of course, not forgetting the first group photo with everyone in Kuching!
With that done and everyone sorted into three cars, we left to the destination where we have lunch or brunch since it was the first thing we ate. *drum rolls* Ta-daaa this dish below is called the "Heng Hua Soup Noodles". This bowl costs RM 6 and it was definitely worth it as the portion is quite decent and it's suitable for those who are not into spicy food. Location : To be updated.
After lunch, we went to the house that we rented for all of us to stay in to unload all of our stuff from the car. Finally bathed after spending the night before not sleeping and some took a nap before we went out at about 3pm for tea time. It seems like all we care is about eating doesn't it? Tea time was Kolo Mee and Kangkung Cuttlefish which is some sort similar to rojak.
Tea time done and we decided to walk around the Kuching Waterfront but before that we saw the Orang Utan murals that were on the walls of Electra House at Khoo Hun Yeung Road, drawn by Ernest Zacharevic. There's two of them murals here where one is the baby Orang Utans while the other is of a group of orang utans in a wagon.
The one below is of a candid picture of Mei Ting and Jun Ray, the dramatic duo.
With a little creativity, we kind of re-enact what was drawn on the wall.
Have a look and judge for yourselves ; the girls and guys version of it.
The weather that day was pretty windy and from the picture, it appears as though there sunlight rays are piercing to the clouds and I just couldn't help but to take a photo of it.
heh.
Moving on to our vain photo session at the Kuching Waterfront, with a splendid view of Astana.
Well only for the girls, the guys were more into taking class photos
The classic class photo that's taken for the yearbook kind.
Guess who's the class monitor?
and then there's the random pose kind of class picture.
While they are at that, here's a selfie of Mei Ting, Emily, Sheryn and myself.
And yeah a random picture indeed this was. Cos the other two didn't really heard us calling for them.
Drove to the next area for "photoshoot" with the cats (statues) in Kuching.
Here's another group photo to be remembered with the special pose!
Si Yi, where's your cute cat pose? LOL
Departed to Shirley's house for dinner after getting all the fried chicken and other kinds of delicacies that you can see in the picture below to feed all of us.
Ohh yeah, not to miss out Shirley's beloved Jojo. She was really friendly to not bark at us when we came in and she is so adorable and fluffy and her eye kinda sparkles (or is it just me).
All in all, she is just so fluffyyyyyyy
Dear uncle and aunty, thank you so much for the meal and also for having us around!
Bid our farewell to Shirley's parents and drove back to the hostel/hotel/house
(I really dont know what you call it)
to celebrate Jun Ray's birthday before the day ends.
As everyone was tired after a long day especially after not having a good night sleep at the airport, everyone bathed and off to bed to sleep like pigs.
19th May
Breakfast at Carpenter's Street to have Hakka Mee.
Three of us sat outside and there wasn't much space to fit all of us in the small coffee shop.
Ohmygosh I look like I was even tired to smile for the camera LOL
Needless to say, more pictures of the rest of us posing and taking pictures.
This was taken at the back alley with these graffiti art.
Here's Daniel and Ken's famous pose.
Professional models (Mei Yee & Sheryn) along with the professional photographer.
& the group photo.
The theme was to be "gangster" and this is what everyone thinks how they should look like.
Macam yes?
For me, I just can't stop laughing whenever I see this.
Next stop ; Bako National Park!
& a picture with the Avanza team with the pilot and co-pilot.
Just Kok Sim, Emily and I.
***
Arrived at the Bako Terminal where we have to take the boat to the park itself for hiking.
RM 10 for entrance fee and RM 30 per person for the boat ride to the park.
45 minute journey on the boat.
First batch of 6 departed first ; Mei Ting, Sheryn, Mei Xuan, Shievram, Si Yi and myself.
The other 12 squeezed into the bigger boat.
三个小螃蟹
After the hiking trip, we paid an extra RM 7 to go around the park to see the famous Sea Stack and also other sculptures caused by erosion.
Do you see a bear smiling?
///
It's amazing to see how these unintentional actions can produce such interesting sculptures like this.
Makes me think of how the unexpected turns in life that brought us where we are now.
///
Last stop for the day before dinner ; Damai Beach
Reached at about time to watch sunset across the skies of Sarawak.
Alrightyy, I shall let the pictures do the talking for now.
I like how this picture turned out.
Left the beach and off for dinner since we didn't have lunch nor tea time as we went hiking until late 4pm. Dinner was at Topspot where we ordered like 10 dishes for the 18 of us. Recalled the time where all the girls and the guys would argue and exchange just so we can try all the different dishes. I totally don't know who have the picture that night. Dinner ended pretty late and all of us reached home nearly midnight already. As the next day was Shirley's birthday, we decided to stay up late just to celebrate with her but the plan got postponed a little bit as the queue to bath was pretty long. Everyone was only ready at about 1am. The fun part was to keep the birthday girl herself awake as she seemed really sleepy already in the girls room. The rest of us just kept bugging her not to sleep and then Aaron came in with the birthday cake and present while the rest of us sang the birthday song. I can't find the right words to describe her reaction that day LOL
20th May
Breakfast at Goody Goody Cafe. Tried the kuey chiap and sarawak laksa along with the dumplings. Really loved the dumplings that tasted like those Japanese ones, gyoza.
Next destination : Sarawak Cultural Village.
This place is actually next to the Damai Resort where we went to the Damai Beach the day before.
Entrance fee was RM 15 for a student price.
See the happy faces at the entrance of the Cultural Village.
Immediately went in to witness the cultural performances &
look who got on the stage for live performances? *winks*
Loved how this picture turned out to be so colourful <3 :)
With the performances ended and we enjoyed looking at the architecture of each houses of different tribes.
At the Bidayuh House
The Scandalous Biochemistry family and I guess this is where it started.
At the Melanau house with Shriram, Kok Sim, Jun Ray, Aaron and Shirley.
Hi Aaron and the always hungry Shirley
Ohh there are stamps from each house that the tourists can collect but we only paid according to the student price. So we dont get those passport looking booklets.
heh :)
Once we are done visiting the houses, we depart to Swee Kang Ice Kacang place as we missed it earlier during the previous days for tea time. a goodbye selfie to the cultural village seems necessary even during a sunny day.
While others slept throughout the journey from the cultural village, the 5 of us in the Myvi car driven by Andrew was being all hyper when "See You Again" played on the radio. Apparently I'm labelled as the active one throughout the trip. By active they always meant by noisy. boohoo you people :( Anyway did I mention that somehow the few days that I was in Sarawak, the radio has been playing awesome songs like the songs that are totally on my playlist! *excited* heh. I remembered it being a rainy day and these ice kacang definitely made it better.
All of those were shared among the four of us and the last one was Milo and Jagung Ice Kacang which we couldn't resist after we saw someone on our next table ordered it. Funny all of us were not feeling full after that.
*fast forward*
Dinner : Premier 101 Food Court
There's a lot of different food here at this Food Court and this is the time where you have a difficult time to choose. Managed to try a bit of everything ordered by them friends ; the cheeseburger, dumplings (couldn't help it), char koay kak, gong pia (famous in Sibu apparently), teh C special and I can't recall what else did we order that night. Didn't eat much that night cos I think I was filled with the happiness upon seeing them after so long.
Had the plan to meet up with my previous Form 6 gang in Sarawak since its been so long since I last saw them. I think the last time we met was during CNY last year or 2 years ago and wow how much they have changed since then. One got a girlfriend now (tsk tsk), one got more popular as expected, definitely louder than me, the three ladies definitely got prettier. Can't believe the two tricked me into thinking that they were bringing their boyfriends over and it turns out to be a surprise for me (I'll remember this). Didn't expect to see all of them during this trip cos I thought they would be busy with their uni things and all but I guess it made me really happy to see them again even if its not back in Penang itself. Didn't take them long to catch up about everything about me and themselves as well.
Thanks a lot you guys for coming all the way to meet me up. I'm really touched *happy tears*
We need to make this meet-up an annual thing sooooon.
I miss you guys alreadyyyyyy T__T
All the best for your upcoming finals people!
To end the last night being in Sarawak, a group photo with all of them coursemates and Aaron's friend over the trip.
P.S ; Really sorry if it was awkward having my friends over dinner as I didn't talk much with my coursemates that night >__<
Spend the night packing my stuff to catch early flight the next morning. Had a great talk with them girls and also to taking selfies as we spent the last night together in Kuching.
21st May
Initial plan was for everyone to leave at 6am to get breakfast as Daniel and I are taking the morning flight from Kuching back to Penang. Plans got postponed as we celebrated Kok Sim's advance birthday together in the house when everyone was awake. Just a small celebration before all of us leave Kuching and back to our respective home sweet home.
After that, the entire gang left the house to send Daniel and I off at the airport. The surprisingly heavy traffic before reaching the airport got me worried that I might miss my flight. Heart attack moment there but thankfully Daniel and I reached the airport with some time to spare while waiting for others. As usual while waiting, we took some picture.
Had the thought of running straight to the departure hall cos I thought I wouldn't see them.
Thankfully we waited and managed to at least take this one last picture together before leaving Kuching for home. Hugged everyone goodbye and the two of us ran to the departure gate.
I think that was a pretty epic ending of mine of this trip.
Thanks for sending us off again you guys :D <3
& Melody ; we will definitely wear dresses/skirts again the next time round. I promise :)
4 days 3 nights and this was the end of it.
First trip with the gang and I really had fun throughout the entire trip.
Lots of joy and laughter in it that I couldn't forget. Learnt new things and games to play.
and needless to say, all of us got closer and more comfortable with each other.
I really wished I joined for the Sunny Hill trip though. The icecream looked super tempting :(
*deep sigh*
Thank you for the adventure Kuching.
Can't wait for the next adventure to be planned.
