Crash Course on Places to Visit in Jeju (1 of 2)
I've always wanted to write travel posts and come up with recommendations and places to go. Do you feel that excitement to dive straight into working on your plans, reading recommendations just after buying your plane tickets? This is probably the ideal situation for detailed planners but not myself because I'm totally the spontaneous traveler.
At most, I will come up with a list of places to go along with the best place to dine local cuisines and delicacies. So that will be what I will cover in the first post - Must Visit Places in Jeju Island. Please note that these are written based on personal preferences. Do leave your recommendations in the comments!
Stay tuned for my second post to see what I would recommend next.
Mount Hallasan (한라산)
As a city girl myself, I have a preference in visiting islands rather than famous cities - which is one of the main reason why I chose to start off with Jeju island. Just for the fact that this island is well known for its natural wonders from waterfalls, white sandy beaches and a dormant volcano right at the center of the island.Jeju-do (제주도) is a highly recommended holiday destination among the South Koreans, with just over an hour flight from Seoul. It is clear why this island is known as the "Hawaii of South Korea" given the beauty of the white sand beaches, majestic waterfalls and a dormant volcano at the center which also happens to be the highest mountain in South Korea and a designated national park Hallasan National Park (한라산국립공원).

Teddy Bear Museum (테디베어뮤지엄 제주)
Out of the many museums all over the island, this is one of the places to go especially if you are a fan of teddy bears or a fan of Goong: Princess Hours (궁) Korean drama back in 2006. These teddy bears will appear at the end of each episode where their actions will portray the most memorable scenes in the drama.![]() |

If you're a person who enjoys learning history and culture, the Jeju Folk Village might just take you back in time to the 1890s era. For K-drama lovers, this is also the filming site for the famous series back in 2003 called Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum). Here, you can see over 100 types of houses and facilities of Jeju's village that was reconstructed by experts. While you're there, you should also check out the traditional cultural performances.
You may see a few of these stone statues called 'dol hareubang' here and throughout the Jeju island. The Jeju dialect actually translated 'dol hareubang' as 'grandfather made out of stone'. They are often regarded as fortress protectors or guardians with distinct features such as round bulging eyes, firmly closed mouth and a soldier's hat.
Woljeongri Beach(월정리해변)
Known for its scenery, driving along this beach will definitely be therapeutic for some people like myself. The recommended route is to drive on the coastal road heading east from Jeju International Airport to reach this beach. With the tea houses and coffee shops in the area, imagine the vibe as you enjoy your cup of coffee or dessert with this view. Just the perfect vacation, no?![]() |

P.S / Food for Thought
With the social media hype going on strong where the number of likes is the proof of how good of a person you are at taking them, it makes me wonder what kind of a traveler I am. Is it just for the game of chasing likes? Or should I only take them whenever I feel like it, instead of being pressured by the people around me? Does it even matter at the end of the day?
Those are the few questions that popped up in my head as I watch tourists taking out their phones and cameras, snapping away. It's been a while since I last traveled to a new place but I do find myself becoming a person who takes photographs as a souvenir and keep them in my Photo Gallery, rather than posting it up. My question is rather, what is it that you seek when you travel? and thus, what kind of a traveler are you?
