A New Year Resolution

Can’t believe it’s been two years since I last blogged. Figuratively speaking, it’s about 730 days of me missing in action from this space. It wasn’t entirely because of the fact that I’ve started living and acting like an adult, but it’s more of the fact that I feel burdened with the idea of writing things for the stats, the likes and for attention.

Ever since my last post, everything that I have written after just never felt good enough to be seen. It didn’t feel as genuine and the words didn’t come as naturally as before. I ended up deleting all the drafts I had written because they weren’t good enough and it was frustrating to keep seeing them.  Eventually, I stopped writing entirely and just focused on writing in my journal instead - at least I didn’t feel any obligation to post them anywhere.

After being on a hiatus for two years, I feel like I have a responsibility to keep this blog alive rather than to having to create a new one. Trust me for I’ve considered using other platforms to start afresh - like medium.com and WordPress. Though I can’t remember when or what made me started on Blogger, I was thinking it’ll just fulfill the purpose of having a space to write and to keep what I’ve written and posted for the past few years. I’m really hoping that I could keep using this platform for a long long time and hopefully, it will be a place where I could find myself again.

——You can leave here before I dive into the ‘behind the scenes’ story. Thank you for your attention and I hope you will keep an eye on this humble space from time to time :) ——

So what have I been doing for the past two years, you may ask. One obvious thing was that I started to read more books and listen to podcasts. For those who aren’t aware of this amazing thing called podcasts, it’s like the radio - instead of listening to songs, you listen to discussions or conversations on various topics depending on the genre of your preference. My choice of books and podcasts during this period of time (and still is) is the self help and motivational kind.

(I could recall my friend’s reaction when I mentioned that I was into self help books - the response was immediately ‘do you need help?’ )

My top three favorite podcasts to listen to are ‘Big Magic’, ‘The Lavendaire Lifestyle’ and ‘Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations’. ‘Big Magic’ ended some time ago while the other two are still ongoing. The first two podcasts are more of a guide on how to tap our creative self and sharing life lessons on how to create our own dream life. While Oprah’s podcast is more on the spiritual level such as the topics of purpose, meditation and religion, you also get to hear people like Paulo Coelho, Michelle Obama share their thoughts on what they think is their purpose in life.

I find listening to these podcasts really motivating especially for someone who is on a journey to discover oneself - be it your talent, purpose or direction in life. Do give podcasts a try as I don’t want to spoil the fun for you. (It’s kinda the closest thing to getting someone to read a book to you.)

Another thing that brought me back to blogging was that it is the very first item on my New Year Resolutions for 2019. (Cliche, but I’m sure you would have guessed it by the title of this post.) The list just happened after reading some article about NY resolutions and I just spontaneously wrote three things that I would want to work on this year. My first item just happens to be - “Write something. Tweak as you need to and publish them on your blog!”. I mean, I must have written that for a reason. Now, I have this list somewhere in my room where I make it a point to look at it as to remind myself.

Didn’t realize how fast time flies once I sit down and start to type. It’s a little over 2am now and I guess the coffee effect is wearing off.

I’m not sure if this is what I intend to do for the first post in 2019, but it happened. I wouldn’t say it felt like magic but I could say it feels like a start of something new (hopefully not old). I don’t have a schedule defined yet, but will try to keep at a minimum of one post a month - as a challenge.

Better late than never. Always start somewhere.

Until next time,

Love, Sara
